Writer's Block: R.E.A.D. in America Day

In celebration of R.E.A.D. in America Day, tell us about what you're reading. How is reading important to you? What would you recommend to others?

OMG i love to read. I always have. Right now i am still reading the six wives of Henry VIII i have been slacking and not picked it up in awhile. It's really a great book though and i am almost finished with it. My next book is about anne boleyn

It's hard sometimes to recommend books to others unless you know what kind of stuff they are into. I love history so I enjoy reading about kings and queens and shit that happened 100 200 or however many years ago but lots of people find history boring (blasphemers)
But i also like to read anne rice novels, the harry potter books, and i am a sucker for a good historical romance novel lol

There are some good history texts out there, but they're passed over. I had to read this one history textbook... and it was like heavenly.

Another history text I'm reading right now, the guy gives this awesome definition of Imperialism that suggests that Imperialism isn't just a government taking control of other countries but the spread of ideas as well... He gave the example of football/soccer (choose appropriate term for your region).

Yeah, a lot of people don't like history texts... but don't consider them blasphemers. They can't help if they're uncultured like that.

LMAO no they can't help that they are uncultured. I think people should be more interested in the past than they are. Those who do not know the past are doomed to repeat it. Just because it happened 100 years ago or more doesn't make it irrelevant.
I am also all kinds of interested in reading about Marie-Antoinette I have read Marie-Antoinette the Journey I want to get a couple more books about her. She was a very interesting subject to read about.

politely butting in... :)

I think that definition of imperialism is definitely true. First thing that comes to mind for me is the British Empire and India, seeing as my personal history is very tied up with that.
